On Friday, June 5, 2020, Congresswoman Maxine Waters joined the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) to deliver masks to residents of Avalon Gardens at the Community Social Hall. Avalon Gardens is located within Waters’ Congressional District (California’s 43rd Congressional District). The mask distribution was also done in partnership with Avalon Gardens’ Resident Advisory Council (RAC) members.
In May, HACLA received 25,000 non-surgical, washable cloth masks from industry partners to share with our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. These masks will contribute to the overall effort of improving health outcomes for low-income individuals and better serve our most vulnerable populations during this very uncertain time.
“Resident safety remains one of our top concerns,” said Doug Guthrie, President & CEO of HACLA. “We are mobilizing quickly to distribute these masks to our various public housing sites and senior facilities as a part of our broader response efforts to COVID-19. We value our relationship with the Congresswoman and appreciate how she rolls up her sleeves. She’s not watching from the sidelines. She’s right there with us in the trenches.”
Congresswoman Maxine Waters is a longtime partner of HACLA and advocate for the communities she serves.
