The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angles (HACLA) participated in the United Way’s annual HomeWalk on Saturday, May 18th in Grand Park, Downtown Los Angeles. HACLA’s “All-Stars” team broke its own record again this year with over 70 participants and over $8,000.00 raised to support the efforts of ending homelessness in Los Angeles.
United Way’s HomeWalk is an annual 5K family run/walk fundraiser to help spread awareness and raise funds for LA County’s residents experiencing homelessness. Since its launch 12 years ago, HomeWalk has raised over $8 Million and housed 45,000 people.
For the first time this year, HACLA qualified for a sponsor booth at the event due to its number of participants and fundraising level as well as the central role the agency plays in providing permanent supportive housing to the homeless. HACLA has committed 1/3 of its resources, almost 20,000 vouchers, to housing the homeless. At the HACLA booth, staff provided Homeless Incentive Program information and giveaways such as eco-friendly bags, clips, pens, and post-it notes.
We are extremely grateful to everyone who attended and supported the HACLA All-Stars team. We couldn’t have done this without the participation and support of our wonderful and dedicated staff.
