The Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles (HACoLA) and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) joined Third District Supervisor Sheila Kuehl,Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office, L.A. Family Housing, and Brilliant Corners, to host HouseLA, an outreach event for landlords in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys aimed at introducing innovative programs to help end homelessness.

Nearly 200 landlords attended the event to learn about various programs that offer financial incentives in exchange for partnering with the County, City, and non-profit providers. The County and City announced new programs under their respective Homeless Initiative Programs (HIP) for landlords who agree to accept subsidized tenants holding a HACoLA and HACLA-issued voucher.

Third District Supervisor Sheila Kuehl welcomed the attendees, stressing the significance and a great need for landlord participation in programs that help addressing homelessness in Los Angeles County. After opening remarks, a panel consisting of the County, City and non-profit organizations made informative presentations regarding the programs and services they provide. Serina Cannon from HACLA, talked about the Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher and Continuum of Care Programs. Tracie Mann from HACoLA spoke about Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH), Landlord Veteran Incentive Program (VIP) and HIP programs they offer. Dan Parziale from LA Family Housing talked about Rapid Re-Housing program. Tyler Fong from Brilliant Corners presented the Flexible Housing Subsidy Pool Program. At the end of the panel presentations, landlords were given a chance to ask questions and visit presenter’s tables to obtain useful information and flyers.

Funding for these groundbreaking programs comes as part of the Homeless Prevention Initiative, a collaborative effort between multiple County agencies funded by the Board of Supervisors, using a one-time $2 million set-aside.  Similar funds have also been set aside by the City of Los Angeles.  The programs are part of unprecedented County and City homeless strategy initiatives announced earlier in the year and are expected to be funded through June 2017.
